On the 175, an awful lot of people seem to like the lighter flywheel. Evidently, it gives it a welcome zap off throttle without impacting control significantly. It also reportedly allows you to get the front end up quite a bit easier without popping the clutch - and spoiled as I am with modern clutches, the less I have to touch it on this bike the better.
But yes, it's an odd upgrade to me coming from modern bikes. Adding flywheel weight on the Vertigos - at least the 250/300 - smooths them out tremendously.
It's easy enough to swap back out to stock if need be.
