Benelli 750 sei

If in doubt, or it doesn't seem to fit elsewhere - put it here.

A beauty, and some real quality engineering.

More done today. Had to backtrck a little — small plastic piece I thought went somewhere else (forgot to label it). But got it fixed up. Guess over a year after taking it apart makes a guy forget stuff, At least i took lots of pictures.

Cleaned parts, vaporhoned clutch cover and did a bit of polishing. Time consuming.
I think I will put rest of shifter on, then clutch tomorrow. I need one oill seal, but common size.
No pictures

Shifter in.
Kickstart shaft in (didn’t even loose anything down in the case)
Clutch on.

Cleaning oil pan (I think I’m converting to deeper pan with baffling), more to do on clutch cover.
Next up is oil pump clean/check and mount.

De Tomaso sure had his act together in the design and engineering. Too bad he didn't have the distribution capabilities of Honda, he could have sold a million. How are the electronics?

Electrics are mostly Bosch. I decided to upgrade the alternator to a new one with better regulator etc and more output.
The original fusebox was awful with those pointy ended German fuses. I had trouble on my original sei from the day I rode it home from the dealer. I tossed it and put one from a Datsun on it. I am fitting a blade type fusebox on this one.
I have a new wiring loom, although the original is ok. I also have some new connectors and can make up anything I need.

Veglia tach/speedo, I have some spares, but the original look pretty good (I do have new clear covers).

I got a lot of new stuff for this-I wanted it as close to the new one I had as I can get. Maybe a little better, although like I mentioned, it was my favorite road bike I’ve ever had, or even ridden. (Laverda Jota 1000 was pretty darn nice that I tried though)

My Norris cam catalog lists a racing cam for the 750 sei. Did they ever race them? I bet it would sound wild.

Yes, some did race them. Even stock with a 6-1 they sounded out of this world.

I moved the engine off the lift and onto my transmission jack- strapping it down. That way I can move it around.

Most of the parts I was waiting on came in- the last ones are one the way.
I have more polishing to do so I can mount the clutch cover - then maybe install the alternator. But I may just wait until in the frame to do that.

I’ve been getting some other things done, so hopefully when the parts come in I can finish putting the engine together.
But I still have not done anything to the frame to prep for paint. I also need to rebuild the forks with updated cartriges.
Brakes too.
Heck- LOTS of stuff.

I did get my 72 Benelli 250 SuperSport out for a spin the other day (why it is on the lift).

Looking good, bet you will be glad when it's finished. Or are they ever finished. What is your choice for case paint? I've had my Z1R apart way too long. All it really needs now is the motor stripped and painted.
Did you resolve the issue of the rough brake disks?

No, I have not done anything with the brake discs yet. They are not bad, but a little ‘cleanup’ would likely be the best route.
