BSA B50 ‘Gold Star’ 500SS

For some reason, I always wanted a BSA 500 MX. I missed out on a good deal a few years ago and I sorta look every so often. This 500SS (Street Scrambler, also known as Gold Star) popped up. I realized I probably could actually use this, since I am not racing anymore, so would likely rarely use the MX.
So I foolishly bought it.

It is quite fun to ride, the shift is on the right (which I like) but it has ‘down for low’. Every right side shift bike I’ve ever had is ‘UP’ for low. It can be changed, but have to pull the rightside and gearbox out to do it. Not a huge job- but I will leave that for now.

Vaporhoned and ultrasonic the carb- cleaned out the primary case and changed oil. First time with an ‘oil in frame’ setup for me.
Putting some tyres on it and have some other things of course. Should be fun

Took the BSA out for a longer ride today. It runs very well, vibrates on the hiway but fine at lower speeds. Did really well on gravel roads (my intended use).

Happy bike, Happy rider. Have you changed the ignition yet? Getting back to the GS should be my next project, after the Vinnie is finished.

Still stock points.
Yes- I would like to change ignition, but still looking at various options.

I got the new seat cover today. It came from just north of Victoria, but ended up going through LA before getting back here.

Alloy fuel tank from India.
Looks darn good, especially for the price!

I now have the fenders/side covers off to paint purple also.

I got some replacement fork tubes. There was some rust on the original ones.
So took the forks all apart, cleaned and fresh oil and seals. The old oil was awful.

Be careful now, this will turn into a full restoration.
