Benelli 250 2C

I acquired some used cases for a Benelli 250 2C (250 2-stroke twin).
I did an initial vaporhone on them. Still a few places to touch up, but it certainly does a great job.

The wiper I installed in the machine really helped with vision on a lot of these- The slurry will blast back and cover the window. Makes a very big difference. Plus I added a bit of soap, which helps the the greasy stuff, but without a wiper would decrease vision.

That blaster does an amazing job. I'm still trying to improve the spray mister setup. It needs more volume at a lower pressure so it would squirt instead of spray. I still haven't added a fluid level port, which will be necessary with more water cleaning the window.

For any intersted, this is where I got the vaporhoner machine.
I have the ‘Weekend Warrier’, that came with closed loop water. I added some more lights and a wiper.

Well…I bought that parts engine since this was coming.
The next project. The kickstart shaft is sheared, so I got a very good price. I will pull the engine quite soon. I have been checking electrics a bit. I would like to see if there is spark- might have to spin the rear wheel with my wheel balancer.

You keep coming up with these cool little bikes. I never realized Benelli had such a large selection. I've been paying more attention to some of the Benelli racing history too. Very interesting.

I was checking for spark- but then discovered why it was likely parked. It is an early version of this machine, still with points (later were electronic). Capacitors were toast and corroded. Flywheel nut was loose as was flywheel- so someone must have been in there then never fixed it.

Popped engine out and split the case. Most things looks really good- I did find a bent shifter shaft, but I have another. I will probably cut it off to remove rather than chance damaging the case.
Parts are ordered that I don’t have. So time to put the 250SS engine back together, then do this when done and I have parts.

This is a really well designed engine and quite robust.

I really took this one to make sure I got the shift forks back in the proper orientation/order etc.

Everything looks like is should be for a 500cc or larger. I understand the same person designed the 650 twin Tornado (which I had once) and I think one of the GP bikes. Oh, I think the 250 four street bike. I messed up and didn’t buy a very nice one of those a few years ago- really cool machine. I’ve only seen on at Barber museum.

I am just cleaning now. Next I need to figure the seals/bearings to order. With how it looks I will re-use crank assembly rather than mess about with pressing it apart and replacing bearings. They all look excellent.

After a bit of cleanup and part ordering, I will be putting 250 SS back together. I do not like having two engines completely apart at the same time if I can help it.

I can see where that lower end could well be for a 500 it is so beefy.

Bearings and seals are now ordered. I replaced outer mains- but the inners felt good, so rather than try to get that built up crank apart and back together accurately, I am not replacing those. I don’t plan on running very hard anyway and those are big bearings for a small engine.
I do have a spare crank, I imagine I could make up a jig and see about pressing it apart etc. But I would have to fabricate quite a few tools and at this time, think I will just use them.

I don’t think I’ll do anything more on it until after I get the 250 SS (egg) engine finished.
