Isn't the best handling when the handlebars are centered on the fork tubes?? What you see is the bar clamps sawed off and turned 180º. I know, it's just a thought. You mentioned before about cutting off the bar clamps and adding aftermarket dog bone risers. If I weld these on in the position shown it will be similar to the top tree you have ordered.

And, in addition to getting the bars forward - it will look very similar to stock at a glance.

Looks good.
  Many guys like the bar ends a little forward of centre for Trials- so your ‘180º’ setup would be easy to get right with proper bars.

Too thick of aluminum for my setup- but I’m sure Dan at Allform can fix those right up at a reasonable price.

I didn't know Dan at Alform was still around, if we're referring to the same guy.
I get my new glasses today so no more excuses a bad welding job.
The modified tree turned out nice. It's a bit snug on the 34mm tubes but better tight than loose. The fork stops need to be built up on the frame and reinforced since they make contact on only 1/8" of the stop on the tree. I'll wait until the tapered bearing kit is installed just to be sure nothing changed.

Looking good, John!

Here are the results of the flywheel lightening. Unfortunately, we didn't weigh it beforehand - but I'll try and remember to get a weight on one of the other stock ones to see how much was taken off.

And, here's one after John did his magic. The face was turned down just a hair below the top of the rivets, and a fair amount more taken down outside the rivets.

It's pretty amazing what is being produced for these old bikes.

Swingarm looks fabulous.
Interesting on lightening flywheel- I really like the heavy flywheel on my vintage OSSA. I wish my XTrainer had a heavier one, but I’ll have to make one myself since nobody makes one.

Is that a common complaint with those?
(Very nice work on turning it down)

On the 175, an awful lot of people seem to like the lighter flywheel. Evidently, it gives it a welcome zap off throttle without impacting control significantly. It also reportedly allows you to get the front end up quite a bit easier without popping the clutch - and spoiled as I am with modern clutches, the less I have to touch it on this bike the better. :mrgreen:

But yes, it's an odd upgrade to me coming from modern bikes. Adding flywheel weight on the Vertigos - at least the 250/300 - smooths them out tremendously.

It's easy enough to swap back out to stock if need be.

I think I found our resident TY expert Steve over at trialscentral talking about TY175 flywheel weight. The post says stock is around 6.25 lbs., and two other reduced weights were tried - 4 and 5 lbs. The 4 lb' weight was preferred.

John almost got there with mine, losing almost 2 lbs. assuming the 6.25 number is correct. Just weighed it, it comes in at 4.3.

It took some heat to finally get the flywheel off. Sounded like a firecracker.
That swingarm is a thing of beauty, I'm jealous but will just suffer with an extended version.
The top tree is finished unless I get ambitious and polish it. Looks weird like your eyes are playing tricks on you. May need heat treated again.
