Benelli 250 SuperSport

Since I decided the little Honda 100 was great on the back of the van for traveling-but just too small for two people...I started looking for something a bit bigger, but still very light.

I found a 1972 Benelli 250 SuperSport. I almost bought one new from the Seattle dealer and had a ‘66 200 Sprite for decades. This one has much nicer suspension (Marzocchi and Ceriani), a 5 speed and quite a bit more omph.
It has 800 miles from new, all original (including tyres) and in very nice all original condition. Some scratches and a bit of rust here and there, but quite nice for an old beast.
I’ll keep the original tyres- but now way I’m riding on ones that old, so I’ll just store them and fit some new ones that are in the vintage ‘style’.

Shifts on the proper side (right) and I have not ridden a right side shift in quite awhile, but I always liked it better and I’m sure there will be no big deal. Brakes are pretty good for the era- although if a nice 4-shoe drum from that period pops up it would be a great addition.

I’ll post up some things as I go along. Honda is for sale (ad listed in classified) and it is nice original bike also.

Trying to add pics, but no luck yet.

I took the Benelli 250 out for a spin today- stopped off at PA Power for some fuel line and over at a certain shop with old motorcycles nearby...

It ran great! I certainly like the way it handles. The same as my old 200 Sprite, but with better suspension and more power. The 5 speed is nice also, makes cruising along better.
The seat is much better and the riding position is quite good for putting along. I have not ridden a right hand shift much for awhile, but it came right back and no big deal.
I still have some fine tuning to do, but I think it will work out great.

Still can’t upload pics...I’ll have to try my desktop

That is one cool little bike. Wasn't it Sears or Montgomery Ward that use to sell Benellis?

They did sell the smaller Benelli at JC Penny (that is where we got my little 50cc ‘Dynamo Trail’.
Some other models were badged as Wards in the 60s.

I do not recall they sold this model through either.

Cool bike for sure Mark, I'm having a hard time letting go of the 74 CB450...Might have to keep it...
