Linkgage- design and send out for CNC

If in doubt, or it doesn't seem to fit elsewhere - put it here.

Linkgage- design and send out for CNC

Postby Lotus54 » Sun Dec 08, 2024 7:19 am

I have a couple modern OSSA Explorers- these are trials bikes with a seat and additional fuel. Same as the trials versions, with all the same features/drawbacks (depending on use of course).
I bought one of these new in 2014, ride the heck out of it. I managed to break the rear suspension linkage twice- then I bought a Titanium one a Czech guy was making. Well, those are no longer made.
So I designed a setup in Fusion (3d CAD), 3D printed to verify I got it right, then sent files to an outfit that CNC the part from Titanium. I changed the middle pivot to needle bearings instead of original teflon coated bushings- there was not room to change the others without some major work. I also added lubrication passages/ports so no need to dismantle to lube. Since the teflon bushings have no seals, just pushing a bunch of grease through can also push out most of the water/mud etc.

This was a pretty fun project, I learned a bunch made some goofups and have something that should work darn well.

Looks like a piece of jewelry. Are you sure that belongs on a dirt bike?

The Autozam Scrum (Japanese mini-truck) I’m rebuilding had a broken alternator mount. Only one place I found had replacements (used) and I won’t deal with that company again. Perhaps others had them, but I found I could have one much stouter made for less.
I desinged one, 3D printed to make sure I had it right and had the same outfit that did the OSSA linkage make it.

Came out great and $52.

Not too many mini-trucks will be wearing jewelry like that.
Sounds like you have found a dependable source for unique parts.

Original was pretty flimsy cast piece, with big cuttout in middle.
Here it is in place.

I did a small modification to the linkage, some type of dampers used are too wide in the spring seat area.
So this one adds more clearance.

the new one is all mounted up and works great. I like those flush grease fittings- the bottom linkage one can’t use a zerk type anyway since inadequate clearance.
