Re: Benelli Dynamo Compact

The Id plate is thin and glued on. Almost like an aluminum foil. Maybe I can find a way to remove it before powder coating and put it on later. The frame is stamped with ID numbers only. The sticker has the weight, tire size and date of assembly.

Re: Z1R BUILD

I appreciate the offer on vapor blasting. I completely stripped the frame for powder coating, only if they can protect the sticker on the steering head. I can't believe how much additional electrical components they added on this bike. I have other harnesses from early Z1's but none of them had back...

Re: Benelli Dynamo Compact

The Dynamo sure turned out super. Was that the original color of the frame? Glad to hear they prepped everything properly before coating. I wasn't going to powder coat the z1r frame but now I think I will. I want to preserve the metallic Identification tag on the steering head which wouldn't survive...

Re: Benelli Dynamo Compact

That's coming out really nice. I talked to those guys at SDP just as they opened up. I may take a frame to them to see how it turns out.

Re: Z1R BUILD

I've wanted to add this rotating attachment to this bike stand for a long time. I still need to make a crank to insert where the hand wrench is now. The engine adapter as you see it now is just for holding and rotating the motor during the painting process. I can roll the stand out into the main sho...

Re: Z1R BUILD

Now with new cylinder studs and threads repaired in the crankcase I chose 12 head nuts from an assortment of several. While spinning these onto the new studs I noticed a wobble in several of them. Not a good combination for torquing down the head properly. So I screwed these onto a threaded adapter ...

Re: WINTER PROJECTS

There's a bit of art in turning perfect threads on a lathe. I still enjoy reading old machine shop books that tell how to grind the tool, set the point and compound and so on. I'm at a disadvantage cutting metric threads on the big lathe as it is missing those gears. If I wasn't electronically chall...

Re: Z1R BUILD

The brakes are finished so I disassembled the motor. Starting with the head, 2 of the valve shim bucket were stuck in the head. Several hours of soaking with Kroil, heating and cooling and they finally cam out without damaging the head. The surface of the head was heavily pitted and after attempts o...
