Re: A pack of TY175's!

The 2 TYs are running great and hopefully will be running great when the grandsons visit next time. I have been ignoring this RL250 that came with the blue ty purchase. I was surprised with some fresh gas it started right up and sounds pretty good. Reading some reviews online it seems they were not ...

Re: Shadow Build

With everything else going on, I did finally get some work done on the upper frame member. After 70 years of sludge buildup in the oil tank and no real good way of cleaning it out I decided to install a cleanout. I had tried the old nuts, bolts and gas to scour it clean but was still not satisfied. ...

Re: A pack of TY175's!

We were discussing this very topic today on a vintage bike forum. Many vintage bikes had magnetos that were marginal at best. Of course some of their weakness was due to capacitors. Lucas had a reputation of failing for a number of reasons. If you need, we can clean and test your plugs. Interestingl...

Re: A pack of TY175's!

Is there any performance effects when using a resistor plug? It's petty common to remove the resistor from the spark plug cap and replace it with a copper wire.

Re: A pack of TY175's!

I was disappointed that I couldn't get both TYs running befor my grandsons had to leave. But with the go kart, quad and one TY, we still had a good time. After laying out 5 complete TY ignitions I started testing. I also ordered a new condenser and points kit as well as B7ES plugs. Starting with the...

Re: A pack of TY175's!

It's near impossible for me to see through the nickel size hole in the flywheel to adjust the points. The manual says the points gap should be between .012 and .014. and open at .07 btdc. Not sure which is more important since the ignition plate is not adjustable. If the correct settings don't corre...

Re: A pack of TY175's!

Thanks, good to know that. For now, the small cavity behind the cover will be packed with light grease. A new seal should keep dirt out. One of the TYs has come up 'dead'. Like overnite it has zero spark. All the usual items has been tested again and again including coil, condenser, points, wiring a...

Re: A pack of TY175's!

I can see why someone may miss that little ball as the parts list doesn't show it. It points only to the other half of the clutch rod but when you read the text, is lists the 3/16" ball. Call me next time you need a bit of aluminum as I have quite a lot of it. Just never know what you will find...

Re: A pack of TY175's!

Well, we had a problem with the clutch not completely disengaging. I assumed it would be the post on the clutch arm so took that out and built it up with some hard facing rod. That helped some but not enough so opened up the clutch side to check for worn or warped plates. All looked good. I pulled t...
