Re: Benelli 250 SuperSport (egg)

I wanted to replace the locking washers and pins on the shift forks, so I was waiting for them to arrive. I had the 250 2C (2-stroke twin) apart at the same time, I got all the parts for it first, so I put it back together and into the bike. Then other stuff came up so I had not done anything on the...

Re: Benelli 250 2C

I had a rough mirror I had gotten from a previous bike and wanted to replace that with something more appropriate and that works well. I happened to see the interesting mirror that had no glass and thought it was way too much $$. But then looking around at other decent mirrors, it was not much more....

Re: Benelli 250 2C

I don’t have anything to track exhaust temps. That could be really useful. The O2 on a 2-stroke can be inaccurate due to the fresh charge getting into exhaust. But this does not have expansion chambers, so I speculate there is less of that. After a long ride, it showed on the rich side. It is a narr...

Re: Benelli 250 2C

To set up carb mixtures easier/more accurately, I installed a O2 sensor bung in a spare set of headpipes. I used silicon bronze with my TIG. I have very limited experience doing this with tig. After a bit, I started getting the hang of it. Seemed what worked was moving the tig torch around at first ...

Re: Benelli 250 2C

The Benelli is pre-mix. I’ve been using Motorex full synth 2-stroke at 50:1 My KTM 300 called fro 60:1, my Beta averages about 88:1 (oil injected). With the oils in 1972, they called for 5% - but even back in the later 70s, I ran much leaner (I think 40:1) with the oils that had come out. BUT, I wan...

Re: Benelli 250 2C

The manual has a very slow breakin recommendation. On this one, mostly the pistons (rings) that would require it. Tolerences are fairly snug so I don’t want to push it. I have a spare headpipe, so I think I will weld an O2 sensor bung on it and go ride it with my readout box, so I can verify mixture...

Re: Benelli 250 2C

I got a dual cable Tomeselli throttle. This is not the desmodronic type that many modern 4-stroke bikes use, but both cables are pull to open. I made up both cables from some Venhill kits I have. The throttle is quite a bit lighter without the splitter (and old upper cable), smoother also. I then ma...

Re: Benelli 250 2C

Tomeselli.

I’ve done a lot better knurls before, but this was a different tool, different lathe and different material.

Re: Benelli 250 2C

The throttle cable adjuster had broken. I’m going to replace the throttle and splitter with a two-cable setup, but in the meantime, I made a new adjuster. The knurling is not very good- but it is functional
