Re: Winter project

I just about have the 73 Benelli 250 SuperSport ready to ride on the road. I wasn’t about to ride it with 46 year old tyres and chain...

Benelli 250 SuperSport

Since I decided the little Honda 100 was great on the back of the van for traveling-but just too small for two people...I started looking for something a bit bigger, but still very light. I found a 1972 Benelli 250 SuperSport. I almost bought one new from the Seattle dealer and had a ‘66 200 Sprite ...

Re: Rode the Sprint today

I have a few of those back in the 70s. Fun bikes.

I (foolishly) bought a 72 Benelli 250 SuperSport- similar engine layout, although very oversquare and I recall the Sprint was undersquare.
We will have to go for a ride with the old beasts when I get it and get it streetable.

Re: Direction of the group and activity's for the next year

I’m not much into group rides for a number of reasons- but meeting at someplace to visit someone’s garage that has interesting bikes/projects sounds pretty fun. Of course, I never seem to make those for one reason or another so perhaps my input is not very valid. I mostly dirt ride, sometimes with m...

Re: A visit to see Brown Maloney's bikes

Wow- no idea that existed. Just down from where I go dirt riding all the time.
It would certainly be neat to see it.

Re: 62 Triumph Bonneville

Good save on the seat.

I learned to do valves with a Souix seat grinder. I don’t recall the valve grind machine brand now.

Re: 62 Triumph Bonneville

A guy I know has a Xanthos 23 (very accurate Lotus 23 duplicate) with a modern engine for sale. It needs assembly. I’d sure like to get it.
But I just plain don’t have the room right now... plus it probably wouldn’t go over very well.

Re: Batteries

AGM is different then Gel. Mostly those are used for stationary applications- and not that many anymore. I would never use one in a motorcycle. AGM works quite well. Back when I was working- we used flooded lead/calcium battery banks. They were huge, heavy and a pain to deal with. BUT they would eas...

Re: Batteries

I tried a Shorai in my KTM 300 dirt bike. It was nice and light (I got the biggest that would fit where the original AGM fit)- but didn’t work for a darn in cold weather. Of course the pre-17 KTM 2-stroke starters were notorious crummy. I didn’t think it was worth it. I ran the original AGM in my Du...
