Re: WINTER PROJECTS

The electronics portion of the ELS is easy- making toothed pullies, getting correct belts and other adpaters takes more time. Well…wiring it all up takes time too. :x

Re: WINTER PROJECTS

I forgot about my Benelli Dynamo Woods bike (first bike I ever rode and still have it). Maybe next winter, but certainly not this one. I did some metric threading on a 8mm rod. I could have done if faster with a die, but just wanted the practice. Of course, I first thought it was a 8x1.0 - so I set ...

Re: Z1R BUILD

I never thought of lapping valves that way. Since none of the ‘regular’ suction cup lappers seem to hold the valves well anymore (old ones did great)- I will try it next time.

I have a Snap-On stud remover/installer (metric)- just in case

Re: WINTER PROJECTS

This is from last year, but I have a bunch of winter project this year too. 1. Finish the Benelli Dynamo Compact (see other thread). 2. Get 66 Lotus Elan all ‘up to snuff’. I already replaced all the dampers, springs, rear adjustable spring perches & top mount. Also new bushigns and trunion rebu...

Re: Z1R BUILD

Thanks, I will keep that in mine.
Years ago I had a Europa master cylinder re-sleeved, but it would have been better to do it myself I think (now).

They did the wheels on my Lotus too- they came out so good I decieded to do the bike.
I was going to do the Wheels, but just had too many things to do and it was slow going getting old paint off.

Re: Benelli Dynamo Compact

My plan was to paint the frame- but a person is buying the bike and I need to get it done very soon. So I took it to the powdercoater. They did a great job. Fuel tank had some pinholes, so I Tig silcon bronze repaired them. A couple were a little tricky. So tank is one done yet, but everything else ...

Re: Benelli 250 SuperSport (egg)

I am going to drive the Elan mostly as is for awhile at least. I have a few things I am changing- the ‘Rotoflex’ rear axles I am changing to CV joint axles. Changing distributor ignition to crank sensor coil-to-plug setup (distributor is under carbs and cannot handle modern coil voltages/current), m...

Re: Benelli 250 SuperSport (egg)

Well, I sold the 250 SuperSport. I was not planning on doing so at all. But this Lotus Elan came along…I’ve always wanted one of them. So I sold three bikes to make room and free up some cash. Since I also have almost same year Benelli 250 (2-stroke though) as this one, I decided I could let it go. ...
