The new synthetic oils will let you get by with a lot less oil than the original mix, but not without any at all.
You may have to get inventive to find those parts these days.

How bad is the journal? Small end also? or just a stuck piston?

Interesting that they are still working on improving the design to deal with potential failure points.
Not all folks working on classic machines have that depth of interest.

Slow to get it correct is usually quicker than fast and having to do it three times before it is the correct size.
Less expensive also, less material used.

The increased surface area of the larger diameter sleeve may be enough to distribute the load so that distortion will take longer, even if you chose to go full bore nitro.
